Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Legal Secretary located in Newberg, OR. As a Legal Secretary, you will play an important role in supporting attorneys and staff by producing accurate, high-quality work, ensuring documents are grammatically correct, and assisting the team to meet deadlines. This role provides an opportunity to develop organizational, communication, and technical skills in a professional law firm setting while gaining exposure to legal processes and case management.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Typing, including transcription, document preparation, formatting and editing
- Scanning, copying and filing for sizable case files
- Assist with prioritizing the workload amongst other support staff
- Receptionist phone coverage as needed
- Research as requested
- Performing general office duties
- Other tasks as requested
Qualifications
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, grammar and proofreading skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills for timely, accurate completion of tasks
- Knowledge of legal terminology
- Strong ability to work independently with a high level of work ethic and initiative
- Works collaboratively with team to meet strict deadlines while managing multiple priorities
- Critical thinking skills and is not afraid to take initiative
- High School Diploma
Preferred Skills/Experience
- Type speed of at least 60 wpm
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook
- Legal experience is a plus
- Workers' compensation experience is a plus
- Normal office environment requiring routine operation of standard office equipment (computers, keyboard, telephone, copiers, fax and scanner)
- No exposure to significant environmental hazards
Essential Functions
- Ability to perform sedentary work that involves walking, sitting, and standing for long periods of time
- Normal visual acuity, hearing, speaking, and the ability to understand and speak the English language
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. occasionally
