Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

The Fred Hutch Office of General Counsel ("OGC") provides comprehensive legal advice and counsel to the Fred Hutch Board of Directors and to the administrators, faculty, health care providers and staff of Fred Hutch when they are acting in the course of their duties on behalf of Fred Hutch. OGC represents Fred Hutch in relation to all legal matters involving Fred Hutch and provides advice and representation with respect to a broad variety of matters and issues, including contracts, research, clinical care, health care and research compliance, employment law, intellectual property, technology commercialization, real estate, conflict of interest, campus security, policy development and interpretation, administrative proceedings, and litigation. OGC also provides risk management and policy program support and implementation assistance. The OGC team currently consists of six (6) attorneys, a risk management team of three (3) specialists, a policy administrator, a paralegal, a legal operations specialist and two (2) professional support members.

The Fred Hutch Office of General Counsel seeks a collegial and experienced individual to serve as a Legal Operations Specialist ("LOS") under the direction and control of the AVP, Deputy General Counsel - Healthcare or their designee. The LOS will be expected to work cooperatively with the other members of the OGC legal, risk, policy and professional team to provide high quality and timely services. The LOS will provide administrative and project coordination functions for the OGC and serves a subject matter expert within the department for such projects.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate, review and approve certain contracts and agreements between Fred Hutch and third-party vendors, customers and collaborators with input and review by members of the OGC legal team and other departments as appropriate
  • Manage projects that support business operations by designing project methodologies, data collection and data management, setting project goals and timetables and ensuring research h and administrative tasks are completed
  • Identify and elevate operational issues regarding the contracting processes
  • Determine content, design and write correspondence, documents and presentations regarding the contracting processes
  • Assist with onboarding new staff
  • Other duties as assigned by AVP & Deputy General Counsel - Healthcare or their designee


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year of relevant experience in business; healthcare or legal experience preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree
  • Three (3) or more years of experience working as a paralegal or equivalent:
    • at a hospital or clinical setting; or
    • in a nonprofit, governmental organization; or
    • in a law firm or in-house legal department, focusing on healthcare and/or life sciences
  • Paralegal certification or equivalent experience
  • Basic experience with electronic file sharing
  • Knowledge of Sharepoint

The hourly pay range for this position is from $32.77 to $49.14 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
