Job summary

The New York City Public Schools seeks an Attorney Interne to support the Impartial Hearing Order Implementation Unit under the Office of the General Counsel. Under the Senior Policy Advisor, you will ensure timely action to implement pendency entitlements and impartial hearing orders, reviewing orders and related decisions and responding to SEQA complaints.

You will draft memoranda, assist at hearings, monitor deadlines, and help prepare internal reports and training materials to support

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited United States law school or admission to the NYS Bar.
• Two additional years of relevant work experience are required.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to write clearly and concisely; strong legal research skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform legal research assigned by the Senior Policy Advisor, including review of cases and guidance documents.
• Review and summarize audits and court reports related to impartial hearing orders.
• Draft response letters to SEQA complaints and CAPs.
• May attend court hearings to support Agency Attorneys and NYCD Law Department.
• Assist in monitoring workflow, deadlines, and internal reports.
• Under supervision: review case records, research case law, and draft memoranda.
• Draft letters for various legal matters, such as FOIL requests or student records requests.
• Review administrative processes and help create training guides and reference materials.
