Job summary

Mandelbaum Barrett PC in Roseland, NJ is seeking a detail-oriented Legal Accounting Clerk to join our office. This in-person role supports client billing, invoice processing, and compliance with firm policies.

You will prepare client invoices, run pre-bills, review time entries, and interact with attorneys and staff to resolve billing issues. Prior legal billing experience is not required; training is provided. Salary: 55,000 to 65,000.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree or coursework in accounting preferred.
• Experience in legal billing or accounting is helpful but not required; training provided.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and client-focused attitude.
• Professionalism and ability to work both independently and with a team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process client invoices for legal services, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Run pre-bills and review with attorneys and staff for adjustments.
• Review and edit time entries for proper matter coding and billing rates.
• Enter billing information into the firm’s billing software.
• Serve as liaison between staff, attorneys, and accounting to resolve discrepancies.
• Address client billing inquiries professionally and efficiently.
• Generate time and billing reports and other client-related financial reports.
• Conduct monthly retainer account reviews and apply to invoices.
• Assist the accounting team with additional administrative tasks.
