What You’ll Do
What Makes Someone Successful in This Role
A Critical Part of the Role: Professional Boundaries
Because this is a legal-services environment, Legal Assistants work under the direction and supervision of attorneys and/or paralegals. Legal Assistants do not provide legal advice, interpret the law for clients, recommend legal strategies, or independently advise clients about what they should do in their cases. Strong judgment about when to escalate a client question to the appropriate attorney or paralegal is essential.
Qualifications
This is a full-time, non-exempt position based in our Rockville office. The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 a.m. in-office.
The position carries an assigned billable rate and a monthly billing expectation of 100 hours. The role requires consistent attention to client communications, task deadlines, case documentation, and follow-through.
How Performance Is Measured
Success in this role includes consistently completing assigned work by its due dates, maintaining accurate and organized case files, documenting client communications appropriately, and accurately recording billable activity. The Firm's existing performance standard is that 95% of assigned tasks are completed by the due date.
Why This Role Matters
A great Legal Assistant makes the entire legal team more effective. When files are organized, deadlines are visible, communications are documented, and clients know their concerns have been heard and routed appropriately, attorneys and paralegals can focus on the legal work that matters most.
If you are a detail-oriented legal professional who takes pride in being dependable, responsive, organized, and helpful—and you want your work to have a direct impact on both the legal team and the client experience,we would like to hear from you.
