Job description

Seattle, United States | Posted on 07/20/2026

As a successful applicant, you must reside in or near Seattle, or be willing to relocate, and work four days a week in office (M, T, Th, F).

Legal Assistants are vital to our success and are valued for increasing the firm’s productivity and efficiency. This position includes managing the work product of 20+ busy, committed lawyers performing complex work across the country. This is a permanent, full-time position with exceptional benefits, a competitive salary, and a supportive work environment. We are looking for a smart, hard worker who ideally has at least three years’ experience working in a law firm; local, state or federal attorneys’ office; state government environmental NGO; or environmental agency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:

  • Format, proofread, and finalize legal documents, including pleadings, deposition notices, discovery requests, subpoenas, and trial binders, to ensure accuracy, professionalism, quality control, and compliance with legal standards. Our Legal Assistants support our attorneys in presenting well‑reasoned and persuasive written materials to our clients, opposing parties, and the courts.
  • Finalize, file and serve pleadings, motions, and other legal documents promptly in federal and state courts nationwide, adhering to jurisdiction‑specific court rules. Timely and accurate filings are critical to maintaining case momentum and avoiding procedural delays. Because filings are often complicated and involve organizing and filing multiple declarations and exhibits in support, priority will be given to candidates with direct experience.
  • Provide litigation support in complex civil matters by helping attorneys prepare for depositions, hearings, trials, arbitrations, and mediations. This includes organizing exhibits, coordinating logistics, and attending proceedings when needed.
  • Organize and maintain physical and electronic case files, ensuring documents are easily accessible and securely stored.
  • Access and retrieve court documents using PACER, court websites, and other legal databases.
  • Review court rules and manage case deadlines, using docketing systems to track and meet critical dates. This proactive approach reduces risk and ensures procedural compliance.
  • Collaborate with other legal assistants and paralegals to share knowledge, coordinate tasks, and support firm‑wide legal operations.
  • Prepare tables of contents and tables of authorities for legal briefs, enhancing readability and supporting persuasive legal arguments.
  • Manage attorney calendars, scheduling meetings, deadlines, and court appearances.
  • Maintain confidentiality and communicate professionally with clients and attorneys, across all interactions, whether in person, by phone, email, or virtual platforms.
  • Perform general office administrative duties, such as answering phones, scanning, copying, and building binders, to support daily operations.
Requirements
  • Experience in a law firm or similar legal setting is preferred, but not required if the applicant has other substantial, proven experience.
  • College degree is preferred.
  • Demonstrated interest in the environmental field.
  • Strong work ethics and professional demeanor.
  • Exceptional writing skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to take initiative, work effectively as a team member, and maintain composure under stress.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro, with experience in legal software such as NetDocuments, SharePoint, ShareFile, JuraLaw, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Familiarity with document version control and comparison tools.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and adapt to changing demands.
  • Full‑time position, working Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5 pm, with occasional overtime due to case, project, or scheduling demands, and as needed for court filings.
  • The starting compensation range for this role is $33‑$40 per hour (approximately $70‑85 k annually), depending on experience.
  • Health insurance benefit options, including medical, prescription, vision, dental, basic group life and long‑term disability.
  • Flexible spending accounts for health flex and dependent care expenses.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with annual company match.
  • Paid time‑off for all regular FT team members to include sick days, paid holidays, vacation, and personal time.
  • Employee assistance program providing confidential professional counseling, financial and legal assistance at no charge to team members and immediate family members.
  • Hybrid Working Environment: 4 days in office with Wednesdays Work‑from‑home and a work‑from‑home set up with everything you need to be successful at your home.
  • Monthly wellness stipend.
  • A collaborative workplace, which will challenge you and celebrate your work.
  • A chance to learn with and from interesting and enthusiastic colleagues.
