Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years of transactional or corporate industry experience; estate planning or probate experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and edit legal documents, correspondence, reports, and internal forms accurately and efficiently.
  • Transcribe from dictation or handwritten material; draft, format, and modify documents based on attorney notes and instructions.
  • Maintain calendars, schedule meetings and appointments, and monitor filing deadlines.
  • Handle phone calls and visitors professionally, gathering accurate information and directing inquiries appropriately.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements and submit expense reports for assigned attorneys and team members.
  • Assist with pre-bill review and edits to meet monthly billing deadlines.
  • Perform or oversee administrative tasks such as e-filing, creating tables of authorities/contents, managing Excel/PowerPoint files, and document formatting.
  • Assign or handle administrative tasks like scanning, copying, docketing, mail distribution, time entry, and file maintenance when needed.
  • Support other attorneys and legal assistants during high-volume periods or team member absences.

Location: Columbus, OH

Schedule: Hybrid(4 days in office, 1 day remote) | Monday-Friday | 8:00AM-5:00PM

Pay Range: $60,000-$72,000/yr. (Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, education, and internal equity.)

We are seeking a Legal Assistant to join our Estate Planning & Probate Group.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under general supervision and in accordance with Firm policies and procedures, this position provides high-level administrative support to attorneys and their clients, maintaining positive and professional communication across the board. The Legal Assistant ensures timely and accurate completion of work assigned by multiple attorneys, including document preparation, electronic filing, calendar and deadline tracking, and overall practice support.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Legal Assistant or Legal Secretary
  • Minimum of two (2) years of transactional or corporate industry experience; estate planning or probate experience is a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • Strong typing, formatting, and proofreading skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Familiarity with business or corporate industry processes and legal terminology
  • Exceptional organization, time management, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage calendars, deadlines, and multiple priorities effectively
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating as part of a team
  • Flexible and responsive to time-sensitive demands; willingness to work beyond regular business hours when necessary
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with tools such as iManage, Aderant, Interaction, PreBill Manager, and Teams is a plus
  • Adept with legal document preparation, transcription, and editing (minimum typing speed of 70 wpm)

Working Conditions:

Works in typical office setting. Occasionally called upon to work hours in excess of normal daily schedule.
