The Department of Communication and Media Studies at CaliforniaState University San Marcos accepts applications on an on-goingbasis for our pool of part-time lecturers to teach our lowerdivision and upper division courses, as well as GEO 102: GeneralEducation - Oral Communication.

GEO 102 Course Description:

Introduction to the form and content of communication. Includes:the linguistic, psychological, and cultural bases of communication;various types of communication ranging from basic speech acts toforms of persuasion; the social and political significance ofcommunication; and how communication operates within and across awide range of social contexts. Students become actively acquaintedwith some of the potential proficiencies that may be brought intovarious social contexts. Requires active participation in classroomexercises and practicing public speaking.

Applicant pools are used to fill short-term temporary Lecturerpositions across our campus with the possibility of rehiring. Appointments may last from one day to a whole semester. Thisapplicant pool may be used to fill vacant positions on an as-neededbasis throughout the academic year. Applications in this pool adwill only be good for the current academic year. This pool willbe closed effective May 31st. If you wish to be considered for the next academic year, you will need to apply to the new pool as itbecomes available by June 15th.

Minimum qualifications:
  • ABD in Communication/Media Studies or closely relatedfield;
  • Experience and demonstrated effectiveness with in-personclassroom instruction and Learning Management Systems such asCanvas, Moodle, or Blackboard;
  • Per the California State University's Out-of-State EmploymentPolicy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to performCSU-related work outside California. Working in the State ofCalifornia is a condition of employment.
Preferred qualifications:
  • A doctorate in Communication/Media Studies or closely relatedfield;
  • Pertinent expertise to teach courses in our Communication/MediaStudies programs
  • Higher education teaching experience with minimum of 1 year asteacher of record pertinent to subject area
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrateintercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campuscommunity as it relates to teaching and, as applicable,service.
Salary commensurate with degree level and experience
  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 - $8,000 perfull-time month

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer – Academic YearClassification is available based on the following ranges:

  • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5,507- $6,677 per full-time month
  • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B - AY: $6,221- $13,224 per full-time month

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum ofthe appropriate range, commensurate with education andexperience.
