Job summary

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is seeking a Lecturer in Criminal Justice to join the College of Public Service. This pool posting creates a standing slate of qualified applicants for temporary, non-tenure track appointments that may be filled semester by semester.

Classes may be on-campus, online, or hybrid, and the lecturer will cover core and option-area courses in Criminal Justice, including areas such as Corrections, Investigations, Policy, Forensic Science, and Data

Qualifications

  • A master's degree or higher in criminal justice, Criminology, or related discipline; JD substitution allowed.
  • Preferred: five years of applied work experience in the criminal justice system.
  • Ability to teach in multiple formats (on-campus, online, hybrid) is preferred.
  • Previous teaching experience at post-secondary levels is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver undergraduate courses in Criminal Justice.
  • Create assessments (exams, papers, learning activities) and grade.

The College of Public Service at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) will establish and maintain a pool of Lecturers in Criminal Justice from which future appointments to temporary, non-tenure track positions will be made. Appointments are part-time (less than 50% time) and will be made semester-by-semester.

This position will teach undergraduate courses in Criminal Justice. For example, courses would include core courses and/or option area courses for the Criminal Justice major. Classes may be on-campus, online, or hybrid. While all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply, the department has a current need for lecturers with the following areas of expertise:

  • Corrections
  • Criminal Investigations
  • Criminal Justice Policy
  • Forensic Science
  • Crime Mapping
  • Data Analysis
  • Law Enforcement
  • Substance Abuse and Treatment

Duties include class preparation, delivery of course materials, creation of assessments (examinations, papers, learning activities) and grading, and maintaining availability for student consultations during the semester. The position includes regular communication with the program director and staff throughout the semester.

What We Offer

Salary Range: $1,300/ credit hour. Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A master's degree or higher in criminal justice, Criminology, or a related discipline from an accredited institution is required.
    • Substitution: Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous teaching experience, which may include teaching at post-secondary levels and/or leading professional training, is preferred.
  • Ability to each in multiple formats (on-campus, online, hybrid) is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of applied work experience in the criminal justice system is preferred.
