Job summary

University of Oregon seeks a Leaves Manager to lead the administration of university leave programs, including FMLA, OFLA, and Paid Leave Oregon. You will supervise a team and partner with Benefits to ensure compliant, compassionate service for employees.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Benefits, this role drives program improvements and strategic planning while maintaining strong partnerships across campus. In-office presence is required.

Qualifications

  • Five years of leave administration experience including expertise in FMLA, OFLA, and other state leave programs.
  • Two years of supervisory experience.
  • Deep knowledge of medical leave administration and related trends.
  • Ability to create and communicate streamlined leave processes and best practices.
  • Experience with data analysis and reconciliation, including reports.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day administration of FMLA, OFLA, Paid Leave Oregon, parental/military/leave programs.
  • Provide guidance on complex and sensitive leave cases and ensure compliance with laws and policies.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director of Benefits and campus partners to resolve escalated issues.

The HR Programs and Services unit manages the university'sbenefits, medical leaves, work-life, HR compliance, learning anddevelopment, and recognition programs for all employees. The unitprovides HR support services to the campus community and isresponsible for generating and distributing HR communications toall university employees. The unit develops and maintains HRprograms in collaboration with campus stakeholders to supportuniversity leadership and institutional priorities.

Position Summary

As the Leaves Manager, you'll play a vital role in supporting thewell-being of our employees by managing the university's leaveadministration programs. Reporting to the Associate Director ofBenefits, you'll supervise a dedicated team while serving as theuniversity's expert on leave administration. Your work will helpemployees navigate some of life's most significant moments andchallenges with compassion, consistency, and expertise.

You'll oversee the day-to-day administration of a broad range ofleave programs, including the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA),Oregon Family Leave Act (OFLA), Paid Leave Oregon (PLO), parentalleave, military leave, hardship leave, and the university's donatedleave programs. You'll provide guidance on complex and sensitiveleave cases, coordinate with the associate director and campuspartners to resolve escalated issues, and help ensure compliancewith federal and state laws, university policies, and bestpractices.

Beyond managing daily operations, you'll work closely with theAssociate Director of Benefits to enhance leave programs throughstrategic planning, process improvements, and continuous serviceenhancements. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact byimproving the employee experience while supporting the university'smission and fostering a culture of care and compliance.

We're looking for someone who combines technical expertise withsound judgment and effective skills in listening and customerservice. Because this role involves close collaboration withemployees, campus partners, and the leaves team, it requires aregular in-office presence to support effective communication,relationship building, and departmental operations.

Minimum Requirements
  • Five years of leave administration experience includingdemonstrated expertise in interpreting and applying applicablefederal and state laws, regulations, policies, and procedures thataffect leaves administration (e.g. FMLA, OFLA, Other state leaveprograms).
  • Two years of supervisory experience.

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of medical leaveadministration, laws, and trends.
  • Ability to develop, evaluate, maintain, and effectivelycommunicate streamlined processes and best practices related toleave administration.
  • Ability to work on a variety of projects and taskssimultaneously.
  • Ability to produce the highest standards of work withconfidentiality and integrity.
  • Flexibility to shift directions quickly when priorities change,recommend creative solutions to problems, and deliver against tightdeadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, customer service, andteamwork skills.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to effectivelycommunicate complex information to individuals from diversebackgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to work effectively and supportively with customersnavigating stressful situations
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in data analysis and reconciliation, includingcreating and maintaining reports.
  • Working knowledge of UKG Ready and the Banner HRIS system.
  • Experience working in higher education or the publicsector.
  • Experience working with Collective Bargaining Agreements.
