Reporting to the Manager, Leave Administration, you will administer and process leave requests, manage active leaves, and serve as a subject matter expert on leave laws and regulations.

This role can reside in Philadelphia, Chicago, or Washington DC and offers a hybrid in-office/remote schedule, with collaboration across attorneys,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; 1+ year of HR/leave experience preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and process employee leaves and related documentation.
  • Manage active leaves of absence and monitor return-to-work timelines.
  • Serve as SME on leave laws, policies, and firm procedures for attorneys, staff, and HR partners.
  • Coordinate with Total Rewards on benefits matters related to leaves of absence.
  • Provide timely updates to Payroll/Finance regarding leave status and eligibility.
  • Ensure consistent application of leave policies across US offices and escalate risks as needed.

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world's leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking to hire a Temporary/Temp-to-Hire Leaves Specialist.

Reporting to the Manager, Leave Administration, this position will be responsible for administering, processing, generating, and maintaining employee leave requests and associated documents, managing active leaves of absence, and serving as a subject matter expert on leave administration and applicable laws and regulations. The Leave Specialist will work directly with employees and HR Business Partners regarding leave of absence policies and procedures.

This position can reside in our Philadelphia, Chicago, and Washington DC offices and offers a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule.

Key responsibilities
  • Work with attorneys, legal and professional staff, managers/supervisors, and HR Business Partners on leave of absence procedures, ensuring adherence with applicable leave laws and firm policies and practices; review and approve completed paperwork while ensuring compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Monitor all pertinent steps and obtain all relevant information as it relates to employees' leaves of absence; coordinate with the Total Rewards team regarding benefits-related issues and questions associated with leaves of absence.
  • Generate and distribute written and verbal information to inform attorneys and professional staff, managers/supervisors and HR Business Partners, Payroll/Finance of leave eligibility and status.
  • Provide technical expertise to attorneys and professional staff and managers/supervisor or HR Business Partners by explaining leave policies, procedures and timelines, review leaves processing of applicable offsets, and resolve problems or issues.
  • Perform case management activities for approved leaves of absence by providing regular milestones, requiring and collecting return-to-work paperwork, and monitoring leave utilization.
  • Independently respond to attorneys' and professional staff questions or concerns regarding leaves of absence, research leave policy issues and problems and respond with appropriate action in accordance with state and federal laws and firm policies, and within the appropriate timeframes deemed by firm leadership.
  • Ensure that applicable leave policies are being applied consistently, accurately and timely across all US offices, as well as proactively identifying risks and provide proper escalation for high level resolution.
Experience and qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and a minimum of 1 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and human resources experience.
  • Leaves experience is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge and proficiency of MS Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and solid written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business and professional publications, prepare business correspondence, proposals and reports, effectively present information to groups of employees, and respond to questions from employees, managers, clients and vendors.
