Job summary

Community Housing Partners in Virginia Beach is seeking a Leasing Consultant I to support leasing and resident services at an affordable housing community. You’ll guide applicants through the leasing process, maintain resident records, and work with the Property Manager to keep operations smooth.

The role emphasizes customer service, organization, and effective communication as you help new and current residents, coordinate tours, process applications, and contribute to occupancy goals.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Customer service experience required.
• Property management, leasing, housing, or related experience preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organization and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and follow established processes.
• Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook and learning property management systems such as Yardi and RentCafe.

Responsibilities

• Welcome prospective and current residents in person, by phone, and electronically.
• Conduct property tours and explain lease terms, eligibility requirements, and community policies.
• Build positive resident relationships and respond to questions and concerns professionally.
• Support lease renewals and resident retention.
• Accept, process, and track rental applications and waiting lists.
• Verify applicant income, eligibility, and required documentation.
• Prepare leases, move-in paperwork, and other leasing documents accurately.
• Help maintain strong occupancy by keeping the leasing process moving and coordinating unit readiness.
• Assist with resident certifications and recertifications.
• Maintain accurate, organized, and audit-ready resident files.
• Follow Fair Housing requirements and affordable housing regulations.
• Escalate complex eligibility or compliance questions to the appropriate manager or compliance team.
• Assist with move-in and move-out inspections and documentation.
• Maintain leasing, occupancy, and resident records.
• Coordinate with maintenance staff regarding unit readiness and resident needs.
• Support marketing and outreach efforts to generate leads and maintain property visibility.
