Job summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a part-time Learning Zone Tutor for the Haven of Hope Community Center in Philadelphia. You will develop and implement lesson plans, help with homework, and provide tutoring to students in math and English, both in groups and one-on-one.

Ideal candidates will have tutoring experience, strong communication and organizational skills, and a valid PA driver’s license. Flexible evenings/weekends and commitment to the mission are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with 2-3 years tutoring/teaching experience; Bachelor’s degree completed or in-progress is preferred but not required.
• Must conduct oneself professionally and reflect credit on The Salvation Army.
• Must possess strong organizational and be detail oriented and see projects to completion.
• Must have excellent interpersonal communication and classroom management skills.
• Must have a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
• As a Mandated Reporter, must provide PA Act 153 training and recurrent training every five years.
• Must understand and support the Mission of The Salvation Army.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements lesson plans for students, assists with homework, and provides tutoring using specified curriculums.
• Maintains daily/weekly student records with data on progress, attendance and behavior.
• Serve as a positive role model and support community center programming as directed.
• Undertake tasks related to seasonal programs (e.g., backpack giveaways) as assigned.
