Description

The Online and Distance Education Learning and Technology Support Specialist is responsible for assisting the Instructional Technology staff with providing institutional support for the use of Canvas and other educational technologies; and assisting the Learning Experience staff with the design, development, implementation, and management of asynchronous online courses for Husson University's Online Division. The Learning and Technology Support Specialist works with a broad and growing array of technology tools and has a deep understanding of learning processes to guide all aspects of the student's learning experience for Husson Online. The Learning and Technology Support Specialist will collaborate with stakeholders to integrate current educational technologies that enhance pedagogical quality. The position promotes and leverages data-informed decisions to create effective asynchronous teaching strategies. Additionally, the Learning and Technology Support Specialist will support faculty using new technologies. The role involves close collaboration with Instructional Technology and Learning Experience staff.

Examples of Duties
  1. Remain current and have a thorough understanding of the latest industry technology tools and trends in online education.
  2. Work closely with Instructional Technology staff to deliver quality support to faculty and staff, develop new services, and test new academic and learning technologies.
  3. Assist in the selection of new educational technologies and resources.
  4. Evaluate the efficacy of technologies and make data-informed recommendations to leadership and staff.
  5. Produce training and support materials for faculty, staff, and students on educational technologies.
  6. Maintain and update the LMS, and assist with overall technology maintenance, in coordination with Instructional Technology staff.
  7. Assist faculty, staff, leadership, and subject matter experts in navigating the Canvas learning management system, in coordination with Instructional Technology staff.
  8. Act as an expert resource and point of contact for Canvas and other educational technologies.
  9. Apply appropriate learning theories to course design and implementation.
  10. Work collaboratively to design and develop high-quality, innovative online courses.
  11. Apply flexibility and understanding to complex course designs involving multiple stakeholders.
  12. Design online content in Canvas and integrate educational technologies to enhance student learning.
  13. Coordinate administrative aspects of course development, delivery, and support.
  14. Evaluate course quality following best practices.
  15. Other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications

Education: Master's degree required; preferred in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, or Education.

Experience: One to three years relevant experience as an instructional technologist or designer.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and web development basics.
  • Experience managing multiple complex projects with varied deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong research, content analysis, and preparation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to stay current with rapidly changing technologies.
  • Knowledge of instructional design or technology strategies and current tools.
  • Familiarity with Universal Design and accessibility principles.
  • Effective communication with faculty, subject matter experts, colleagues, leadership, and media developers.
  • Experience with learning management systems, especially Canvas.
