Job summary

The Learning Support Specialist II (LSS II) tutors in-person, working with students one-on-one or in small groups to help them attain a deeper and more substantial command of the assigned subject matter. The LSS II collaborates with other tutors in a shared tutoring space and communicates student progress to the department.

This position generates reports from tutoring software and keeps documentation of tutoring interactions, while supporting instructors with course content and learning tools.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in related field is required.
  • At least one year of teaching or tutoring experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency with tutoring software and ability to communicate effectively with students.

Responsibilities

  • Tutor students one-on-one or in small groups to improve mastery of course material.
  • Support multiple students and other tutors in a shared tutoring space.
  • Generate tutoring reports and share progress with supervisor.
  • Provide communication and information to instructors to facilitate student learning.

Job Summary

The Learning Support Specialist II (LSS II) performs the duties ofa professional tutor. The LSS II tutors in-person and works withstudents, either one-on-one or in small groups to help them attaina deeper and more substantial command of the assigned subjectmatter. The LSS II works with multiple students and withother tutors present, in a shared tutoring space. This role communicateswith the department regarding individual student progress andneeds. This position is responsible for generating reports fromtutoring software and sending them to his/her supervisor. The LSSII must have a strong command of the subject matter and be able tocommunicate it effectively to students using a variety of methodsand teaching tools.

Tutoring
  • Supplements students’ understanding and command of the coursematerial for which the students are seeking assistance, outside ofclass.
  • Tutors for introductory courses in discipline area of expertiseonly.
  • Helps students to develop and apply appropriate learning andstudy skills.
  • Meets with students at appointed time.
Administrative/Clerical Functions
  • Maintains documentation of all tutoring sessions.
  • Generates department reports for tutoring and maintainsdocumentation of department tutoring interactions.
  • Provides course instructor(s) with communication/informationthat can be used to facilitate student learning of coursecontent.
  • Proficient use and implementation of the College’s tutoringsoftware.
Continuous Learning & Mentoring
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the course material, as wellas multiple instructional methodologies, to accommodate variousstudent learning styles.
  • Attends tutor training sessions.
  • Provides support to LSS, LSS I, Peer Tutors & SupplementalInstructional Leaders.
  • Assists with technical support of tutoring software andreports.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in related field.
  • One (1) year of teaching and/or tutoring experience in aneducational environment desired.
Additional Information
  • State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable abilityto gain access to work site(s).
