Job summary

Mercy University’s Center for Academic Excellence and Innovation seeks a Learning Support Manager to oversee tutoring operations and develop campus-wide tutoring programs. You will lead tutors, coordinate embedded support, and partner with faculty to align services with course goals.

The role focuses on inclusive, student-centered learning, using data to improve outcomes and increase access to support resources across campus. reporting to the CAEI Director.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education, higher education, counseling, learning sciences, or a related field.
  • At least three years of professional experience in higher education, academic support, tutoring, student success, learning support, or a related area.
  • Experience supervising, training, coaching, or evaluating student employees, peer tutors, faculty tutors, or other academic support personnel.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating academic support services, tutoring programs, workshops, or student learning initiatives.
  • Experience collaborating effectively with faculty, academic departments, advising/student success teams, and other university partners.
  • Ability to use student success, academic performance, and/or tutoring utilization data to identify student needs, monitor participation, and assess program effectiveness.
  • Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and campus-based operations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive, student-centered practices that promote access, belonging, independent learning, academic success, and persistence.

Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Learning Support Manager for the Center for Academic Excellence and Innovation (CAEI) provides coordination and oversight of academic support services designed to enhance student learning, persistence, and academic success. Reporting to the CAEI Director, the Learning Support Manager is responsible for managing tutoring operations, developing and supporting peer tutors, faculty tutors, and strengthening partnerships with faculty, academic departments, and student success teams. The Learning Support Manager serves as a campus leader for academic support by ensuring students have access to high-quality, proactive, and inclusive learning resources. This position supports CAEI’s mission to promote independent learning, increase utilization of tutoring services, improve student outcomes in high-need courses, contributing to institutional retention and on-time graduation.

Responsibilities
Tutor Training and Campus Management
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate tutors to ensure consistent, high-quality academic support services.
  • Manage daily tutoring operations, scheduling, and communications for assigned campus and program areas including individual tutoring, small-group learning sessions, and embedded support models.
  • Develop professional development opportunities for tutors focused on effective tutoring practices, learning strategies, student engagement, and inclusive pedagogy.
  • Track tutoring utilization, student engagement, and academic outcomes to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the CAEI leadership and administrative staff to plan, coordinate, and assess academic support initiatives.

Student Success Strategies and Academic Intervention
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic partners to identify students requiring additional support through progress reports, faculty referrals, academic alerts, and course performance data.
  • Coordinate targeted academic interventions for students in high-enrollment, high-DFWI, and licensure-based programs.
  • Facilitate workshops, classroom visits, and academic success programming focused on improving student outcomes.
  • Support embedded tutoring and other innovative learning models that increase access to academic support and persistence.
Faculty Engagement and Academic Partnerships
  • Build ongoing partnerships with faculty, academic departments, and school leadership to increase awareness and integration of CAEI services.
  • Conduct outreach to faculty teaching high-risk courses to promote tutoring referrals, classroom engagement, and early intervention strategies.
  • Participate in school meetings, academic events, and cacampus initiatives to strengthen collaboration between CAEI and academic programs.
  • Partner with faculty to align tutoring services with course expectations and student learning needs.
Cross-Campus Coordination and CAEI Visibility
  • Collaborate with CAEI leadership and Learning Support Managers across campuses to ensure consistent, equitable, and high-quality tutoring services.
  • Develop campus-specific strategies to increase student participation and awareness of academic support resources and the tutoring center.
  • Coordinate outreach efforts including orientation programming, mid-semester campaigns, finals support initiatives, workshops, campus events, and resource fairs.
  • Partner with Student Success, Accessibility Services, Advising/PACT, Campus Life, and other university departments to create coordinated pathways of support.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a centralized academic support, tutoring, learning center, or Center for Teaching and Learning environment.
  • Experience developing or implementing embedded tutoring, supplemental instruction, peer-assisted learning, early-alert interventions, or other proactive academic support models.
  • Experience supporting students in high-enrollment, high-DFWI, gateway, STEM, health sciences, or licensure-based courses.
  • Experience using student success, learning management, tutoring management, early-alert, or institutional data systems to monitor student engagement and outcomes.
  • Experience developing tutor training and professional development focused on effective tutoring practices, learning strategies, inclusive pedagogy, and student engagement.
  • Experience leading cross-campus initiatives or coordinating services across multiple academic programs or locations.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices in tutoring, learning support, student engagement, retention, persistence, and degree completion.
  • Experience designing and assessing academic success programming and translating assessment findings into continuous improvement strategies.
