Job summary

Howard University is seeking a managerial leader to direct a comprehensive academic program for student-athletes, ensuring compliance with NCAA and university rules. You will oversee study halls, progress reporting, and coordination of registration for priority deadlines.

Reporting to the Assistant Director for Student-Athlete Support Services, you will collaborate with coaches, advisors, and staff to support academic planning and degree progress.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• This is a managerial position directing a service-oriented academic program for student-athletes.
• Role ensures compliance with NCAA, conference, and university rules, policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Assists coaches, student-athletes, and recruits with university requirements and individual program requirements, including transfer credits.
• Monitors progress toward degree requirements and continuing eligibility for assigned student-athletes.
• Assists with submitting NCAA waivers and appeals.
• Organizes study hall for all student-athletes and creates daily study hall reports and weekly progress reports for the coaching staff.
• Coordinates and monitors priority registration for student-athletes.
• Assists with academic planning and enrollment for summer school fifth year.
• Maintains relationships with athletic administrators, coaches, faculty, university support staff, and parents by contacting and interacting with academic advisors and student services to access progress/status.

Job Purpose

This is a managerial position responsible for directing a service-oriented and comprehensive academic program for all assigned student-athletes to ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, and university rules, policies and regulations. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Principal Accountabilities

• Assists coaches, student-athletes, and recruits with university requirements and individual program requirements, including applicability of transfer credits, in a timely and professional manner.
• Monitors progress toward degree requirements and continuing eligibility for assigned student-athletes.
• Assists with submitting NCAA waivers and appeals.
• Organizes study hall for all student-athletes and creates daily study hall reports and weekly progress reports for the assigned coaching staff.
• Coordinates and monitors priority registration for student-athletes.
• Assists with academic planning and enrollment for summer school fifth year.
• Maintains a viable working relationship with athletic administrators, coaches, faculty, university support staff, and parents by contacting and interacting frequently with academic advisors and student service departments to access the academic progress/status of the student-athletes.
• Participates in continued education, professional development, and training, including active participation in NCAA-sponsored seminars, conference meetings, applicable conventions and academic services education.

Supervisory Authority

Reports to the Assistant Director for Student-Athlete Support Services.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required.
