Job description

From the Heart Learning Solutions is a small educational therapy practice in West Los Angeles specializing in individualized academic intervention for students with learning differences and disabilities.

We are looking for a Learning Specialist who shares our belief that effective intervention should never feel one-size-fits-all.

Our work is highly individualized, and creativity is a big part of what we do. We are constantly looking for new ways to help a concept click, designing activities around a student's interests, turning practice into games, and finding ways to make challenging work engaging and fun. We want our students to experience success and build confidence, not simply get through an academic task.

We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys figuring out how individual children learn. The right person is curious, creative, warm, and willing to change course when something isn't working. Just as importantly, we value continued learning and professional growth. Our team is always learning, refining our approaches, and adding new strategies and intervention methods to our work. We want someone who is excited to do the same.

What you'll do:
  • Work 1:1 with students with learning differences and disabilities
  • Provide individualized intervention in areas such as reading, writing, math, and executive functioning
  • Get to know each student as a learner and adapt instruction to their individual strengths, needs, and interests
  • Find creative ways to engage students and make learning enjoyable
  • Use evidence-based intervention approaches while thinking flexibly about how to apply them to each child
  • Collaborate closely with the Educational Therapist and other Learning Specialists as part of a supportive, collaborative team
  • Participate in ongoing training, observation, feedback, and professional learning
  • Maintain timely, professional communication with families and the team
Qualifications & Attributes:
  • Experience working 1:1 or in small groups with students with learning differences, disabilities, or academic challenges
  • Background in special education, reading, writing or math intervention, resource support, or a related field
  • Familiarity with evidence-based intervention approaches, such as Orton-Gillingham, Lindamood-Bell, or other structured literacy and academic intervention programs, is a plus
  • A warm, engaging approach and the ability to connect with students across a wide range of ages, personalities, and academic levels
  • Compassion and empathy, with an understanding that every student brings different strengths, needs, and ways of learning
  • Cultural respect and sensitivity. We work with an extremely diverse group of students and families, and respect for each family's culture, values, and background is essential to our work.
  • Creativity and flexibility in finding different ways to teach a skill when an approach isn't working
  • Genuine curiosity about how children learn and a strong desire to continue developing new skills and learning new intervention approaches
  • Professionalism, reliability, organization, and strong follow-through
  • Excellent responsiveness and prompt communication. Timely communication with families and the team is an essential expectation of this role.
  • Openness to feedback, collaboration, and continued professional growth
  • This is an in-person position based in West Los Angeles. Reliable access to a car and the ability to drive to students in the West Los Angeles area are required.

We're a small, collaborative practice, and we learn from one another. This isn't a role where you'll simply be handed a curriculum and expected to deliver it. You'll receive training and support while also bringing your own ideas, creativity, and experience to the team. We want someone who is excited to keep learning, try new approaches, and think deeply about what will help each individual student succeed.
