Responsibilities

Archmere Academy is seeking a dedicated Learning Specialist to provide individualized academic support to students with educational accommodations in our newly renovated Student Learning & Resource Center. The ability to work closely with students, counselors, teachers, and parents to develop learning strategies tailored to each student's particular learning profile is crucial. A professional with an insightful understanding of the science of learning is highly desirable. The top candidate will have excellent listening and observational skills, experience, empathy, as well as a growth mindset.

Learning Specialist Responsibilities

  • Manage the Student Learning & Resource Center that is the hub of academic support by providing individualized academic support for students with educational accommodations, supervising the Testing Center, and facilitating productive work in a dedicated small-group study space.
  • Help students in developing effective learning strategies to promote academic improvement. Provide one-on-one and small-group support/instruction, coach students on executive functioning, and build trusting relationships with students.
  • Manage all documentation/accommodations and write individual learning plans (Formal Education Plans) based on psychoeducational testing reports.
  • Submit accommodation requests to the College Board and ACT and assist with proctoring duties for testing for approved students.
  • Collaborate with Counselors, Principal, and Director of Academics to implement study skills programs; most notably, the Learning Specialist will play a central role in our Summer Enrichment Program for incoming 9th graders.
  • Stay current with new developments in teaching methods, cognitive science, and educational psychology. Support teaching staff and parents by offering resources, assistance, advice, and/or training to better meet the needs of all learners.
  • Maintain professional relationships with psychologists and neuropsychologists in the area as a referral base; possess a solid understanding of processes related to psychoeducational testing and outcomes.
  • Coordinate peer tutors in coordination with the National Honor Society Facilitator.
  • When possible, generate teaching and learning resources for the school community as a whole.

Learning Specialist Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Education, though Master's is preferred
  • Experience teaching/guiding students in a rigorous high school curriculum
  • Extensive knowledge of learning differences and strategies for supporting neurodivergent students with evidence-informed practices
  • Familiarity and experience with the accommodations request process for College Board and ACT
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, and school administration
  • Passion for bettering the lives of students
  • Entrepreneurial mindset to drive regular programmatic assessment and implement improvements
  • Ability to conduct psychoeducational testing or baseline assessment to evaluate student learning needs is a plus
