Job description

Fisher Phillips is a place where your ideas matter, your initiative is valued, and your work directly supports the success of employers navigating complex workplace challenges every day.

Our firm is building for the future: strengthening systems, investing in technology, and refining how we deliver exceptional client service. Professional staff here don’t just maintain processes – they help design better ones. If you’re forward-thinking, solutions-oriented, and eager to make a meaningful impact, you’ll find ample opportunity to shape how we work and how we grow.

Fisher Phillips, a premier international labor and employment law firm, is seeking an experienced Learning & Development Specialist with prior law firm experience to join our team. In this role, you will support the design, coordination, and delivery of learning and development programs that strengthen employee performance, professional growth, and firmwide initiatives. The ideal candidate will understand the unique pace, structure, and professional development needs of a law firm environment and will be comfortable partnering with attorneys, professional staff, and firm leadership.

Position Summary

The Learning & Development Specialist will lead technology-focused onboarding, deliver ongoing training, and provide one-on-one and group coaching to attorneys and staff across the Firm. The successful candidate will be highly comfortable with technology, able to quickly develop subject-matter expertise in new applications, and skilled at translating complex systems, software features, and workflows into clear, practical learning experiences.

This role will maintain strong knowledge of the Firm’s core technology applications and help employees use those tools effectively and efficiently. The position will also support the development and facilitation of professional and soft-skills training as the Firm’s learning and development programs continue to evolve.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate new hire onboarding for attorneys and staff, with an emphasis on technology, systems, Firm workflows, and technology best practices.
  • Deliver ongoing training on core legal and business applications, including Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, iManage, Litera products, time and billing systems, AI tools, and other Firm-specific technologies.
  • Provide one-on-one coaching and targeted technology training for individuals, teams, offices, departments, and practice groups.
  • Design, develop, and implement ongoing training programs and curricula focused on enhancing the technology skills and, as appropriate, professional and behavioral skills of attorneys and staff.
  • Deliver training remotely and in person through instructor-led sessions, workshops, webinars, recorded content, demonstrations, and other appropriate learning formats.
  • Quickly learn new technologies, develop subject-matter expertise, and create training strategies and resources that support successful adoption.
  • Translate complex technology, software functionality, and Firm workflows into clear, accessible, and practical instruction.
  • Design and create effective learning resources, including course materials, facilitator guides, quick-reference guides, job aids, recorded content, and other instructional materials consistent with Firm standards.
  • Evaluate and test new software applications, upgrades, and enhancements from a training and end-user perspective and identify potential learning needs prior to implementation.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of the Firm’s core applications and the technology attorneys and staff need to perform their roles effectively.
  • Identify opportunities to apply software features and technology solutions to individual and work group challenges in order to improve efficiency, productivity, and quality of work.
  • Continually evaluate and enhance onboarding, training programs, and learning resources based on employee needs, technology changes, business requirements, and participant feedback.
  • Partner with Human Resources, Technology, Knowledge Management, Office Managers/Administrators, operational leaders, subject-matter experts, and other business stakeholders to identify and address learning needs.
  • Adapt training approaches and content to meet the needs of different audiences, roles, offices, departments, and practice groups.
  • Promote technology best practices and encourage effective adoption of Firm systems through training, communication, coaching, and ongoing employee support.
  • Support professional development and soft-skills programming in areas such as communication, collaboration, presentation skills, and other workplace competencies as the Firm’s learning programs evolve.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning, technology adoption, innovation, and professional development across the Firm.

Requirements

  • Minimum of six years of related experience in learning and development, technology training, instructional design, or a related field preferred.
  • At least four years of experience in a law firm environment strongly preferred.
  • Experience delivering new hire onboarding and technology training to employees with varying levels of technical proficiency.
  • Experience developing and delivering courses, training programs, and instructional materials.
  • Experience facilitating professional or soft-skills training is a plus.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong technology aptitude and demonstrated ability to quickly learn new software applications and effectively train others.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams.
  • Knowledge of document management systems and common legal technology applications such as iManage, Litera products, time-entry and billing systems, and AI tools preferred.
  • Engaging facilitation and presentation skills in both in-person and virtual environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely with individuals at all levels of the Firm.
  • Ability to simplify complex concepts and translate technology and workflows into practical, engaging learning experiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a professional, service-oriented approach.
  • Ability to assess individual and group learning needs and adapt training methods accordingly.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven project management skills and the ability to manage learning initiatives from conception through execution.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and comfortable exercising initiative and working independently as well as collaboratively with others.
  • Curiosity and willingness to continuously develop knowledge of emerging technology, learning methods, and workplace trends.

What Success Looks Like

The successful candidate will create an effective and engaging onboarding experience, help attorneys and staff build confidence and proficiency with Firm technology, and serve as a trusted resource for ongoing learning and development. They will be curious, adaptable, and comfortable learning new tools quickly, identifying how those tools can improve the way people work, and converting that knowledge into training employees can immediately apply.

Over time, success in this role will also include contributing to a broader learning and development strategy that supports technology proficiency, professional skills, employee effectiveness, and continuous learning across the Firm.

The range for this position is $85,000 to $105,000. Actual base pay within this range will be determined by several components, including but not limited to, location, relevant experience, internal equity, skills, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
