Job summary

Sterling Engineering, Inc. in Wisconsin is seeking an Industrial Engineer to improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce waste.

You will design and maintain systems that integrate people, equipment, materials, information, and production planning while upholding quality and safety requirements. The role requires Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma experience, with strong analytical skills, ability to work with cross-functional teams, and guidance to junior staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Two or more years of related industrial, manufacturing, or process engineering experience.
  • Understanding of Lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience with workflow analysis, time studies, capacity analysis, and process balancing.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with program managers, manufacturing leaders, customers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to provide direction and technical guidance to junior employees.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • AutoCAD experience.
  • Knowledge of the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
  • Experience with Kaizen, Six Sigma, standard work, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze manufacturing systems and identify value-added and non-value-added activities.
  • Develop solutions that improve productivity, quality, cost, capacity, and workflow.
  • Identify and eliminate production waste and process inefficiencies.
  • Design and maintain manufacturing routes and production processes.
  • Create and update facility layouts, process-flow charts, standard work, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Conduct capacity, utilization, time-and-motion, cycle-time, and line-balancing studies.
  • Evaluate new and existing equipment, materials, and manufacturing methods.
  • Use Lean manufacturing, Kaizen, Six Sigma, and root-cause analysis to support continuous improvement and corrective actions.
  • Test proposed process and equipment changes to determine feasibility.
  • Develop performance metrics and support production scheduling and cost standards.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Program Management, Quality, Engineering, and other functional teams.
  • Train employees on productivity and process-improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with company, federal, state, quality, and safety requirements.
  • Support additional engineering projects as assigned.
