The Lead Worker–Janitor will supervise cleaning crews and perform cleaning tasks, splitting duties about 50/50 between supervision and hands-on work, ensuring quality and safety standards are met. The role requires at least one year of custodial or maintenance experience, ability to train staff, and strong communication to support individuals with disabilities.

• Completes Didlake trainings and follows safety guidelines.

Why This Role Matters

The Lead Worker–Janitor provides hands-on support and guidance to individuals with significant disabilities, helping them develop workplace, communication, and interpersonal skills. The role assists the Janitorial Supervisor with directing and supervising cleaning crews while also performing janitorial duties, with responsibilities split approximately 50/50 between supervision and cleaning tasks.

What You Will Do

• Cleans hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevator banks, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas; cleans floors using brooms, mops, and powered cleaning machines; polishes metalwork such as fixtures and fittings; washes windows, door panels, and sills; empties wastebaskets; and replenishes janitor closets.
• Assigns tasks and issues supplies and equipment to employees, inspects completed work for conformance to standards, and requisitions supplies and equipment from Supervisor, APM, or PM.
• Trains employees on how to do assigned work and in using equipment and supplies appropriately; addresses complaints and resolves problems of employees and customers; refers to supervisor as deemed necessary.
• Fills in for general cleaning staff as needed and operates power equipment such as two-stage snow blowers. When specified in the contract, during inclement weather, provides proper upkeep by removing snow from walkways, building entrances and dock ramps, and spreading snow/ice melting chemicals.
• Completes and maintains all Didlake required training and is responsible for following safety standards and guidelines in the proper use of the equipment and other activities.

What You Bring

You bring at least one year of relevant experience in commercial custodial or maintenance services, knowledge of general cleaning products and equipment, and the ability to support and retrain staff on safe operating procedures. Strong communication, sound judgment, adaptability, and the ability to interact effectively and supportively with people with disabilities are essential.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma/GED preferred.
• One (1) year relevant experience in commercial custodial or maintenance services required.
• Prior supervisory experience preferred.

Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of general cleaning products and equipment required.
• Ability to remind and retrain staff on standard operating procedures and the safe operation of equipment.
• A valid REAL ID is required to enter this worksite.
• Possess the ability to pass a background check and maintain a clearance.
• Must possess strong verbal and good written communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to apply common sense and good judgment in fulfilling responsibilities.
• Ability to interact effectively and supportively with people with disabilities.
• Must possess and demonstrate high initiative, adaptability, and flexibility, and convey a positive team member attitude.
