Surge Staffing seeks a Lead Weld Technician for 1st shift in Lafayette, IN. The role leads welding operations, tests equipment, reads blueprints, and ensures welds meet specs.

The ideal candidate has hands-on welding and fabrication experience, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to read blueprints and job specifications. This position requires MIG/TIG/Gas welding proficiency and leadership abilities.

Qualifications

• Hands-on welding and fabrication experience.
• Knowledge of MIG, TIG, Stick, and Gas welding.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specs, and orders.
• Experience using common fabrication tools and equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to inspect and measure parts for quality.
• Ability to work independently and provide direction to others.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

• Test and evaluate welding equipment, metals, and alloys with engineering.
• Develop improved welding techniques and procedures from experiments.
• Inspect welds to ensure they meet specifications.
• Recommend equipment and process improvements for welding.
• Record inspection/test results and prepare reports.
• Review work orders and help schedule production.
• Determine material and supply needs based on production.
• Read and interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders.
• Assign tasks and mentor production staff.
• Inspect and measure parts to verify specifications.
• Adjust procedures to meet production schedules.
• Troubleshoot production issues with the team.
• Support Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain production records and documentation.
