Job summary

The Town of Herndon is seeking an experienced Utility Technician II to oversee water quality monitoring and metering operations. You will lead field technicians, coordinate sampling, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements to deliver safe and reliable water service.

You will test meters, manage AMR systems, and support emergency response while maintaining accurate records and providing technical guidance to staff.

Qualifications

  • Requires experience in water utilities or related field.
  • Experience with drinking water compliance sampling and meter maintenance preferred.
  • Valid CDL with air brake endorsement or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Virginia Waterworks license or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Competent person training for trench safety and confined space entry within six months.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain drinking water quality monitoring and sampling program, schedules, and record retention.
  • Investigate customer water quality complaints and recommend corrective actions.
  • Perform field testing, system flushing, and water quality investigations.
  • Install, repair, test, replace, and maintain water meters and AMR infrastructure.
  • Lead and train Utility Technicians; provide work direction and guidance.
  • Coordinate and prioritize work activities with supervisors and ensure safety and efficiency.
