Job summary

The City of Watsonville seeks an experienced Water Quality Chemist to direct a laboratory team in performing qualitative and quantitative analyses of drinking water, groundwater, wastewater, and sludge. You will ensure QA, prepare reports, and maintain equipment and facilities.

This lead role requires a strong background in chemistry and biology, training others, and coordinating analytical work to meet state and federal standards. On-site position with the Public Works and Utilities Department.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of chemical, biological, and bacteriological tests for water/wastewater.
• Laboratory safety and equipment care and maintenance.
• Working knowledge of chemical laboratory procedures and materials.

Responsibilities

• Perform and coordinate chemical, biological, and bacteriological analyses for wastewater and water samples.
• Prepare technical reports and maintain lab records and QA documentation.
• Train, direct, and monitor staff in proper laboratory procedures and analyses.
• Input and analyze data using a computer and develop new analytical procedures.
