Job summary

City of Richmond, Virginia is seeking a Chemist for the Division of Environmental Management (Lab) to perform complex analyses of water and wastewater samples and ensure compliance with federal and state requirements for public safety and water quality.

The incumbent will maintain laboratory certification, train staff, troubleshoot instruments, and keep detailed test records. Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, environmental science, biology or related field.
• Knowledge of EPA standards and drinking water regulations.
• Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
• Strong written and verbal communication and record-keeping.

Responsibilities

• Perform chemical, bacteriological and physical analyses of water and wastewater samples.
• Maintain logs, records, and generate reports for agencies and managers.
• Ensure compliance with federal/state regulations and maintain lab certification.
• Troubleshoot instruments and train junior staff.
