Job summary

C.J. Hughes Construction Co., Inc. is seeking a skilled Lead Operator for our Water and Sewer department. The role involves safely operating heavy equipment, leading crew operations, and ensuring quality on underground water utilities projects across city streets and rural sites.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in water main installation, the ability to read grades and blueprints, and a strong safety mindset to meet project goals and schedules.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Lead Operator laying water mains.
• Experience digging in trench boxes required.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• CDL license preferred.
• Must pass and maintain operator qualifications and testing.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, skid steers, and other machinery safely and efficiently.
• Read grades, blueprints, and job specifications.
• Lead crew operations and communicate progress and site conditions.
• Install PVC and ductile iron piping from 2" to 24" as required.
• Work outdoors in city streets and variable terrains, following safety policies.
