Job summary

C.J. Hughes Construction Co., Inc. is seeking an experienced Lead Operator for our Water and Sewer department. The role involves safely operating heavy equipment and guiding crew operations on underground utility projects in city streets and rural settings.

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of Lead Operator experience laying water mains, reads grades and blueprints, and commits to safety, quality, and productivity on diverse terrains. CDL is preferred and travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Lead Operator laying water mains.
• Experience digging in trench boxes.
• CDL license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently (excavators, dozers, skid steers).
• Read grades and blueprints to support underground utility projects.
• Lead crew operations and communicate progress and site conditions.
• Perform trenching, earthmoving, and compaction per project requirements.
• Install and connect PVC and ductile iron piping from 2 to 24 inches.
• Maintain safety, quality, and production on job sites.
