Job summary

UnitedHealth Group, Optum Health AI team, seeks a Lead AI/ML Engineer to advance Voice AI, real-time transcription, and scalable enterprise capabilities across healthcare operations.

You will mentor engineers, drive architecture and roadmaps, and ensure HIPAA-compliant security while collaborating with ECS Business. Remote work is supported within the U.S., with occasional in-office requirements in select locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, AI, or related field.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience designing and deploying production-grade AI/ML models.
• 4+ years developing applications with LLMs, agentic AI, evaluation techniques, and observability.
• 3+ years leading engineering teams, mentoring, and setting technical standards.
• Experience with Python, backend services, cloud platforms, and CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor AI/ML engineers, set technical direction and standards.
• Design, build, and deploy Voice AI capabilities including ASR and multilingual switching.
• Translate AI advances into scalable, production-ready enterprise features.
• Partner with ECS Business for solution architecture, cost estimation, and roadmap alignment.
• Embed ethical AI and HIPAA security across the development lifecycle.
• Implement dynamic forms, adaptive updates, and conditional logic for patient-agent workflows.
• Define enterprise standards for evaluating external AI vendors.
• Use enterprise-approved AI tools to automate workflows and improve delivery.
