Job summary

Ingersoll Animal Hospital in Des Moines, IA is seeking a full-time Lead Veterinary Technician to join our team. You will lead and mentor staff, assist veterinarians, supervise patient care, and ensure high standards of customer service.

The ideal candidate has strong communication, veterinary knowledge, and the ability to lift 35+ lbs. Weekend availability is required; background check and drug screen will be completed.

Qualifications

• 18+ years old.
• Highschool diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Ability to lift 35+ lbs.
• Prior experience with animal handling.
• Customer service experience preferred, veterinary knowledge or experience is a plus but not required.
• Must be available Saturdays in addition to varying hours throughout the week.
• Must pass a routine background check and drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Training new hires
• Complete team member schedules
• Hiring, training, and developing all vet assistants and technicians
• Working with other department team leads
• Collaborate with doctors to engage team
• Assist with patient care and treatment
• Monitor hospitalized pets
• Maintain inventory
• Properly restrain animals during blood draws and nail trims
• Aid with routine diagnostic tests including radiographs
• Maintain and sterilize surgical instruments / equipment
• Clean & Disinfect cages, kennels, exam rooms, and treatment areas in the hospital
• Administering medications under Veterinarian or Vet Tech supervision
• Feeding and bathing of animals
• Answering phones
