Job summary

Prince George’s County Government is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support the Animal Services Division. The lead position assists the Veterinary Technician and Veterinarian with animal medical care and essential daily operations.

Incumbent may supervise staff and perform routine shelter duties in a high-judgment role. The Department of The Environment oversees sustainable animal management, pet adoptions, and related services in the county.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience in animal sheltering or control work and euthanizing animals.
• Possession of a valid State driver's license is required upon appointment.

Responsibilities

• Lead team and provide guidance, organize and assign work.
• Perform routine tasks for animal shelter operation and maintenance.
• Care for health and welfare of animals in shelter.
• Monitor sick or injured animals and isolate as needed.
• Assist in vaccinations, microchipping, intake exams, medications and blood draws.
• Maintain data files on animal intake and health information.
