Job summary

Prince George’s County Department of The Environment in Upper Marlboro, MD is seeking an Animal Care Attendant I/II to join the Animal Services Division. This entry-level role maintains kennels, cleans cages, feeds and waters animals, and supports daily care operations at the facility.

As essential personnel, you will assist veterinarians with wellness checks, socialize shelter animals, and adhere to approved safety protocols and licensing requirements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Six (6) months of practical work experience involving public contact work in animal care settings.
• Valid Class C driver's license.

Responsibilities

• House animals safely and humanely in order to protect the animals, self, and others.
• Examine animals to determine their sex, species, size, and age.
• Monitor animals for signs of illness, injuries, and unusual physical and behavioral conditions.
• Isolate animals as necessary.
• Perform initial health assessments of animals arriving at the facility and administers routine vaccinations.
• Assist veterinarians with wellness checks on animals.
• Socialize and exercises shelter animals on a daily basis.
