Job summary

Quantum-Systems GmbH seeks a Team Lead Vehicle Controls & Vehicle Interface to own the DBW interface and vehicle controls software for Mandrill UGV and OEM platforms.

You will lead a high-performing team, stay hands-on in specification, development, and integration, and coordinate across autonomy stacks and vehicle manufacturers. Fluent German/English required; defense experience welcomed.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or comparable field.
• 10+ years of experience in vehicle controls and software development infra for embedded systems in safety/security relevant environments.
• 2+ years in a leadership or team lead role. Defense experience is a plus.
• Deep expertise in Drive-by-Wire interfaces and vehicle control functions across multiple platforms.
• Hands-on experience designing and integrating Board Support Packages for different hardware architectures.
• Strong background in vehicle control design and ML autonomy stacks.
• Strong programming skills in C++ (and Python for tooling); experience with CAN/CAN-FD, Automotive Ethernet, ROS 2.
• Experience with HIL and SIL test environments for vehicle controls and DBW interfaces.
• Proven track record in automated testing, CI/CD, deployment on embedded targets, and SW/HW integration.
• Outstanding troubleshooting, triaging, and software integration skills on real vehicles.
• Strong technical communication; fluent in German and English.
• Player-coach mindset: ownership and fast-paced execution.

Responsibilities

• Build, lead, and enable a high-performing Vehicle Controls & Vehicle Interface team with headcount and budget ownership.
• Own the specification of the Drive-by-Wire interface for primary and secondary vehicle functions across platforms.
• Design and integrate BSPs for each hardware architecture; develop the vehicle controls software behind motion planners.
• Own SW/HW integration on target vehicles and drive issues to resolution with strong troubleshooting.
• Establish automated testing and deployment aligned with the SW Factory CI.
• Ensure safety and security are first-class requirements throughout development and integration.
• Collaborate with Motion Planning, Autonomy, and operations teams; work with OEM partners on interfaces and testing.
• Represent vehicle controls topics credibly towards OEMs and internal leadership.
