Job summary

The City of Aiken is seeking a Utilities Team Leader to join the Engineering & Utilities department in the Water Distribution division. The role leads a crew, plans and assigns work, and trains staff in safe operation of equipment.

Responsibilities include operating heavy equipment for digging and trenching, overseeing water and sewer installations, and ensuring safety practices and proper maintenance of gear. A background in maintenance and strong leadership are required.

Qualifications

• Requires ability to plan work schedules and diagnose equipment malfunctions.
• Must train and supervise crew, ensuring safe operations and procedures.
• Must follow safety practices and 811 locate procedures to maintain accident-free workplace.
• Requires physical capability for strenuous heavy work and lifting.

Responsibilities

• Lead crew; plan and schedule work orders; assign tasks; train workers in safe equipment operation.
• Operate heavy equipment for digging, ditching, loading, unloading, and trenching.
• Oversight of installation work for water taps, valves, hydrants, mains and sewer lines; bedding and compaction.
• Maintain equipment and tools; ensure safe work area and daily reports; stock crew truck with supplies.
• Participate in on-call work on a rotating basis.
