Job summary

The City of Columbia seeks a supervisory employee to lead crews in trimming and removing trees on city rights-of-way and properties. You will drive trucks and operate bucket trucks, chainsaws, chippers, and related gear to complete assigned duties.

The role requires climbing, lifting, and heavy physical work, along with supervising team members and ensuring safety standards are met. This is a full-time on-site position with benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Four years of relevant experience required.
• Valid South Carolina Class B Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

• Prunes or removes trees in City rights-of-way and on other properties as directed.
• Drives and operates trucks and bucket truck; uses tree felling equipment, chain saws, wood chippers, stump grinders and other tools.
• Climbs trees with ropes and saddles when necessary.
• Loads/unloads materials onto vehicles.
• Cleans and removes debris from work sites.
• Inspects equipment and reports defects or maintenance needs.
• Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
• Supervises maintenance of department tools and equipment.
• Assists in supervision of subordinate team members and coordinates tasks.
