Minimum Requirements

• Possess U.S. Citizenship or be a U.S. National.
• Be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.
• Complete a favorable Background Investigation (BI).
• Pass pre-employment Drug Screening and be subject to post-employment random drug and alcohol testing.
• Register with the Selective Service if required.
• Be available to work various shifts and overtime, as needed.
• Meet medical requirements for screening work, including a medical examination and physical abilities assessment, such as:
• Ability to manipulate and lift baggage, containers, and objects efficiently and thoroughly.
• Repeatedly lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Maintain physical agility to squat, bend, and lean for inspections.
• Walk up to two miles during a shift and stand for prolonged periods (3-4 hours).
• Visual acuity: Distance vision correctable to 20/30 or better in the best eye and 20/100 or better in the worst eye; Near vision correctable to 20/40 or better.
• Hearing: Average loss of 25 decibels at 500-3000 Hz, no greater than 45 decibels at 4000-6000 Hz.
• Color perception: Ability to distinguish principal colors displayed on automated screens.

This position is designated as an Emergency Essential (EE) position, requiring you to remain on duty during emergencies.

Qualifications

To qualify for the SV-F Pay Band (equivalent to GS-9), you must have:

• A high school diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSET, TASC), or at least one year of full-time work experience in security, aviation screener, or X-ray technician roles.

And

• One year of specialized experience related to frontline security, including:
• Providing security protection of air travelers, airports, and aircraft.
• Performing pat-downs, operating X-ray machines, screening baggage, reviewing tickets.
• Identifying dangerous objects and preventing transportation onto aircraft.
• Using electronic detection and imaging equipment.

Volunteer experience and prior federal service may also be credited where applicable.
