Job summary

The Connecticut Department of Transportation seeks a Transportation Engineer 3 in the Division of Bridges – State Bridge Design, based in Newington, CT. This lead role focuses on enhancing safety, capacity, and efficiency of the state’s bridge inventory through complex design and project analysis.

The position involves field inspections, coordination with towns and consultants, and advancing design standards. Hybrid work options and strong career development are available within CTDOT.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering and three years of experience in transportation engineering.
• One year of the General Experience at the working level in a professional transportation engineering capacity.
• PE licensure or EIT licensure accepted as substitutions.
• Master’s degree may substitute one year of experience.
• Current incumbents may be considered for promotion with three years of experience, one year at TE2.

Responsibilities

• Oversee design work and field inspections for bridges.
• Design foundations and bridges of advanced design.
• Coordinate with towns/consultants; prepare sketches and recommendations.
• Review storm sewer and culvert designs and calculations for various watersheds.
• Prepare detailed reports and cost estimates for bridges and related structures.
