Job summary

Volkert is seeking a Traffic Project Engineer for the Southwest Region, with opportunities in Austin, Round Rock, or San Antonio, TX. The role focuses on delivering traffic design projects to meet DOT standards, guiding a multidisciplinary team, and coordinating with clients.

The candidate will manage traffic studies, ITS design, and PS&E packages while mentoring junior staff and leading project meetings. A strong civil engineering background and OpenRoads proficiency are required.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering required.
• 5-10 years of traffic engineering experience.
• EIT is required.
• Proficiency in OpenRoads.
• Familiarity with TxDOT and/or DOT standards (MUTCD/AASHTO).
• Proficiency in traffic analysis software (VISSIM, Synchro/Simtraffic, Sidra, HCS).
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening.
• Valid driver’s license and MVR.

Responsibilities

• Prepare traffic signal design plans for intersections and signal mods.
• Prepare TMPs, signing and pavement marking plans.
• Prepare streetlight design and photometric analysis (Agi32).
• Prepare technical reports for IJR/IMR and traffic safety studies.
• Prepare ITS design plans.
• Develop PS&E packages and quantities.
• Assist in intersection layouts, schematics, and signal timings.
• Supervise and mentor junior engineers.
• Attend project meetings with clients.
