Job summary

Volkert Inc. is seeking an experienced Traffic Project Engineer to support our Southwest Region, located in Austin, Round Rock, or San Antonio, TX.

You will work on transportation design projects providing technical expertise and ensuring compliance with locality and state DOT standards. The role includes leading a project team, performing signal design, TMP, ITS plans, and reports, while mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with clients.

Qualifications

BS in Civil Engineering required.
5–10 years of traffic engineering experience.
EIT is required.
Proficiency in OpenRoads.
Familiarity with TxDOT and/or general DOT traffic design standards, MUTCD and AASHTO.
Proficiency in traffic analyses software such as VISSIM, Synchro/SimTraffic, Sidra Intersection, HCS.

Responsibilities

Prepare traffic signal design plans for new intersections and signal modifications to facilitate multimodal accommodations.
Prepare temporary traffic control plan/traffic management plan (TMP) and signing, pavement marking plans.
Prepare streetlight design plan and perform photometric analysis using Agi32.
Prepare technical reports for IJR/IMR, and traffic/safety/road diet studies.
Prepare Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) design plans.
Prepare quantities and develop PS&E packages supporting highway design projects.
Assist in preparing conceptual intersection layouts, schematics, signal timings and engineering reports.
Supervise and mentor junior engineers.
Attend project meetings with clients.
