Job description

The Lead Therapist at Safe Harbor serves as a key clinical leader responsible for supporting high-quality client care, strengthening team cohesion, and working alongside the clinical director to ensure the integrity of clinical and administrative operations. This role blends direct service with leadership, supporting program development, and maintaining alignment with ethical standards and organizational practices. The Lead Therapist plays a critical role in fostering a collaborative, accountable, and growth-oriented clinical environment while helping advance Safe Harbor

Key Responsibilities

40% Clinical Responsibilities

• Maintain an active caseload of 13–15 clients.
• Provide high-quality therapeutic services in accordance with ethical and clinical standards.
• Complete timely and accurate clinical documentation and data entry.
• Conduct risk assessments and crisis intervention when needed, including suicidal ideation response and CPS reporting.
• Participate in case consultation with internal teams.

20% Administrative Responsibilities

• Manage client referrals and coordinate appropriate placements when necessary.
• Respond to records requests in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
• Draft client letters for court, immigration, and other official purposes as needed.
• Assist with client scheduling and appointment coordination.
• Attend and actively participate in staff meetings.
• Support maintenance and organization of counseling forms within SimplePractice.
• Ensure consistency between editable documents stored in the S-Drive and forms used in SimplePractice.
• Assist in maintaining an organized file structure within the S-Drive.

20% Leadership Responsibilities

• Serve as an additional point of contact for clinicians when clinical director is unavailable regarding workflow, questions, and support.
• Model professionalism, accountability, and adherence to Safe Harbor policies and procedures.
• Assist the Clinical Director in identifying workflow challenges, training needs, and opportunities for program improvement.
• Provide training and task supervision for interns and new hires as assigned.
• Offer guidance related to documentation, ethical considerations, and organizational processes consistent with agency policies and under the direction of the Clinical Director.
• Communicate updates, procedural changes, and resource information to the clinical team when needed.
• Facilitate collaborative problem solving and professional support among clinicians.

20% Project Management & Program Development

• Assist in updating and creating internal guides, protocols, and documentation procedures.
• Assist with organizational improvements to file systems and documentation processes.
• Assist in maintaining referral partnerships and community resources.
• Develop group therapy curricula and program materials.
• Assist with grant reporting requirements when applicable.

Additional Responsibilities

• Participate in ongoing clinical trainings and professional development.
• Support organizational initiatives and program growth.
• Maintain compliance with ethical standards, confidentiality regulations, and agency policies.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the mission and operations of Safe Harbor.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or related behavioral health field.
• Active Virginia licensure as an LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or license-eligible resident
• Minimum of two years of clinical experience providing therapy services preferred
• Experience with trauma-informed care and crisis intervention.
• Strong documentation and organizational skills.
• Ability to pass all required background checks.
• Experience working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, human trafficking, or other trauma populations preferred
• Experience facilitating groups and developing clinical programming preferred.

$55,000 – $60,000 / year
