Job summary

Safe Harbor is seeking a licensed clinical therapist to provide trauma-informed individual and group counseling for survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking in Virginia. The Therapist will manage a 16–18 client caseload, perform risk assessments, safety planning, and crisis intervention, and collaborate with the Clinical Team for coordinated, survivor-centered care.

Responsibilities include intake, treatment planning, documentation, on-call coverage for SDV

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or related clinical field.
• Licensed or license-eligible in Virginia as appropriate.
• Experience with trauma-informed approaches preferred.
• Experience with survivors of domestic/sexual violence or human trafficking preferred.
• Experience with EHR and clinical documentation preferred (SimplePractice a plus).

Job description

The Therapist at Safe Harbor is responsible for providing high-quality, trauma-informed therapeutic services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking. The Therapist provides individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, risk assessment, safety planning, and other clinical services based on client needs.

Working as a member of the Clinical Team, the Therapist maintains an active caseload while collaborating with other Safe Harbor programs to support coordinated, survivor-centered care. This position requires strong clinical judgment, timely and accurate documentation, effective communication, and the ability to respond appropriately to clients experiencing trauma and crisis.

The Therapist reports directly to the Clinical Director and receives ongoing clinical supervision in accordance with organizational requirements and applicable professional and licensure standards.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

• Maintain an active caseload of 16–18 clients.
• Provide high-quality individual therapeutic services in accordance with ethical, clinical, and organizational standards.
• Facilitate 1-2 therapeutic and/or support groups as assigned based on program and client needs.
• Conduct intake, assessment, treatment planning, and ongoing evaluation of client needs and progress.
• Conduct risk assessments and provide crisis intervention when needed, including response to suicidal ideation, mandated reporting, and other safety concerns.
• Develop and maintain individualized treatment plans and appropriate clinical goals with clients.
• Provide safety planning and referrals to additional resources and services when appropriate.
• Participate in case consultation and coordination with internal Safe Harbor teams.
• Provide services using trauma-informed, survivor-centered, culturally responsive, and developmentally appropriate approaches.
• Participate in on-call coverage for SDV programs.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate and complete client records in SimplePractice and other required systems.
• Complete clinical documentation within established agency timelines.
• Assist with client scheduling and appointment coordination as needed.
• Respond to requests for client information and documentation in accordance with HIPAA, confidentiality requirements, and organizational policies.
• Draft client letters and other clinical documentation for court, immigration, or other official purposes as appropriate and with supervisory guidance when needed.
• Participate in clinical team meetings, case consultations, agency meetings, and other required meetings.
• Maintain familiarity with and follow current clinical forms, procedures, protocols, and documentation requirements.
• Complete required program data and reporting information.
• Represent Safe Harbor professionally when collaborating with community partners and other service providers.

Clinical Team & Professional Responsibilities

• Participate in regular individual and/or group clinical supervision.
• Seek consultation when clinical, ethical, safety, or risk concerns arise.
• Collaborate with the Clinical Director, Lead Therapist, and other clinicians to support continuity and quality of client care.
• Participate in ongoing clinical training and professional development.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and adhere to ethical standards, confidentiality regulations, agency policies, and applicable licensing requirements.
• Contribute to a collaborative, respectful, accountable, and growth-oriented clinical environment.
• Support interns or new clinicians through collaboration and peer support when appropriate
• Support organizational initiatives, program development, and other projects as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

• Attend required agency meetings, trainings, and events.
• Maintain knowledge of Safe Harbor's programs and available community resources.
• Collaborate with other Safe Harbor departments to support coordinated services for clients.
• Maintain flexibility in responding to changing client and program needs.
• Perform other duties consistent with the scope of the position as assigned.

• Ability to maintain an active clinical caseload while meeting documentation and administrative expectations.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related clinical field.
• Licensed, license-eligible, or currently pursuing licensure in Virginia as appropriate to the position and funding requirements.
• Experience providing therapeutic services to individuals impacted by trauma preferred.
• Experience working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and/or human trafficking strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed and evidence-informed therapeutic approaches.
• Experience with electronic health records and clinical documentation preferred; experience with SimplePractice is a plus.
• Ability to work occasional evening, weekend, holiday, and on-call hours as required.
• Reliable transportation and ability to travel to Safe Harbor program locations and community-based service locations as needed.

$53,000 – $58,000 / year
