Job Summary

The Lead Therapist provides direct clinical services and program leadership across both the Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) and the Unaccompanied Refugee Minor (URM) program. This role ensures high-quality, trauma-informed care is delivered in compliance with all licensing rules and contractual obligations. The Lead Therapist supports the coordination of mental health services, oversees therapeutic interventions, and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure individualized, culturally responsive treatment for children and youth.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual, family, and group therapy as outlined in each youth’s treatment or service plan.
- Conduct mental health assessments, including initial diagnostic evaluations and psychosocial assessments, within the timelines established by program contracts.
- Develop, review, and update treatment/service plans in partnership with youth, caregivers, and MDT members, ensuring alignment with licensing rules and programmatic standards.
- Ensure therapy is culturally and linguistically responsive, particularly for URM youth.
- Deliver evidence-based and trauma-informed interventions using models such as ARC (Attachment, Regulation, and Competency) and Safety-Care principles.
Leadership & Oversight
- Provide clinical guidance and support to therapists and therapeutic support staff.
- Review documentation and service plans for clinical accuracy and compliance.
- Participate in clinical supervision meetings and multidisciplinary team reviews.
- Coordinate with the Clinical Director on training needs, case assignments, and performance feedback.
Program Compliance & Coordination
- Maintain documentation in MiSACWIS, INSYNC, or other required platforms, ensuring timely entry of treatment plans, progress notes, assessments, and discharge summaries.
- Monitor clinical outcomes and ensure services meet contractual benchmarks under the PRTF and URM agreements.
- Ensure fidelity to MiTEAM practice model competencies, including engagement, assessment, teaming, and mentoring.
- Collaborate with the PRTF Case Managers, URM Case Managers, medical staff, legal providers, foster parents, and outside agencies to support coordinated care.
Additional Duties
- Participate in audits, program reviews, and licensing visits as needed.
- Assist in onboarding and training new therapists or interns.
- Support youth in crisis through on-call clinical consultation, as scheduled.
- Facilitate or participate in therapeutic groups, wellness activities, or cultural programming as appropriate to each program.
- Maintain ongoing knowledge of MDHHS policy, licensing rule changes, and relevant legal obligations such as ICWA and MEPA.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field required.
- Current Michigan licensure (LMSW, LLP, LPC, or LP) required.
- Minimum of two years post-graduate experience providing therapy to children or adolescents in a residential, foster care, or outpatient setting.
- At least one year of experience in a supervisory or lead clinical role preferred.
- Training or certification in trauma-informed practices (e.g., TF-CBT, ARC, DBT) strongly desired

Work Environment & Physical Demands
- This position is on-site and may not be eligible for remote work
- Attendance at occasional meetings or events outside regular business hours is required
- The role involves working with sensitive or potentially traumatic information and direct interaction with individuals or families in crisis
- Physical requirements include frequent use of hands for handling objects, tools, or controls; talking, bending, squatting, twisting, climbing, kneeling, reaching, and occasionally lifting or carrying up to 30 pounds
- Vision requirements include close-up work, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- The work environment may involve varying degrees of physical discomfort and occasional loud noise
- Occasional driving, potentially with Clients, during the workday may be needed for operational purposes
