Job summary

Symetra is seeking a Lead Test Automation Engineer to guide a 2-3 person team and advance automation maturity across complex apps and delivery teams. You will design, implement, and maintain scalable test automation frameworks, environments, and CI/CD integrations, while staying hands-on.

You will mentor engineers, shape automation strategy, own framework health and metrics, and partner with product, DevOps, architecture, and QA to improve coverage, reliability, and release confidence.

Qualifications

8+ years of test automation or quality engineering experience.
Hands-on design, build and maintain automation across multiple apps.
Experience leading automation engineers and mentoring.
Design scalable automation frameworks, coding standards and architecture.
Strong API testing using Postman, REST/JSON.
CI/CD integration and governance experience.
Cloud-based testing in AWS/Azure/GCP.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Proactive leadership and ownership of automation strategy.

Responsibilities

Provide technical direction to a team of automation engineers.
Design and maintain scalable automated test strategies, frameworks and scripts for API, UI, integration, functional, regression, smoke, performance, and reliability testing.
Standardize automation frameworks, environments, tools, coding practices, and implementation patterns.
Drive automation strategy, framework design, planning, CI/CD integration, and tooling decisions for major initiatives.
Remain hands-on with framework development, test implementation, code reviews, debugging, and problem-solving.
Mentor automation engineers, QA analysts and interns, and act as automation SME across delivery teams.
Promote adoption of automation and quality engineering best practices across teams.
Define and track automation metrics and communicate risks and progress to leadership.
Lead root-cause analysis for complex automation failures and implement improvements.
Identify improvements to increase automation efficiency, maintainability, scalability, and speed.
Collaborate with development, QA, DevOps, architecture, product teams, and vendors to enable high-quality delivery.
