Job summary

Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD is seeking a Lead Technologist - Hematology for a full-time, on-site role. The position requires a Bachelor's degree and CAHEA-accredited MT program, with ASCP certification preferred, and at least three years in a clinical laboratory.

You will oversee day-to-day operations on the shift, monitor test performance, provide training, ensure CLIA high-complexity compliance, and collaborate with supervisors and staff to maintain quality results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and successful completion of a Medical Technology program accredited by CAHEA or equivalent training.
• Minimum of three years of experience in a clinical laboratory.
• ASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized MT or MLS ASCP or equivalent categorical certification.
• Must meet CLIA qualification standards for high complexity testing personnel listed in 42CFR493.1489.
• Working knowledge of general laboratory equipment including centrifuges, microscopes, keyboards, LIS, calculators, fax machines, and automated analyzers.

Responsibilities

• Be accessible to testing personnel to provide on site, telephone, or electronic consultation to resolve technical problems in accordance with policies and procedures established by the Department Medical Technical Directors or provide alternative backup such as the Medical Director, department supervisor, or shift supervisor.
• Provide day to day supervision of high complexity test performance by testing personnel.
• Monitor test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
• As delegated by the Medical Technical Director or Department Supervisor, ensure that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
• As delegated by the Medical Technical Director or Department Supervisor, ensure that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is functioning properly.
• As delegated by the Medical Technical Director or Department Supervisor, identify and provide orientation and training to all testing personnel and students.
• As delegated by the Medical Technical Director or Department Supervisor, evaluate and document the performance of all individuals responsible for moderate complexity testing.
