Job summary

Transdev North America in Abingdon, MD is seeking a Lead Technician to supervise the bus yard technician team and oversee maintenance and repairs of diesel and gas transit buses.

The role requires diagnosing complex engine and electrical issues, managing parts inventory, and ensuring safety and efficiency in daily operations. DOT physicals and drug testing are required; ASE certification is preferred.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience diagnosing and repairing engines and related systems.
  • ASE Certified preferred.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills to manage and motivate a team.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
  • DOT physical exam and DOT drug testing as per regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and prioritize workload of the bus yard team.
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic tools to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Manage inventory levels to support maintenance and minimize waste.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes and other components per specs.
  • Coach and monitor team members.
  • Maintain open communication with customers.

Lead Technician – Diesel/Gas Transit Bus

Transdev in Abingdon, MD is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Technician to join our team. The Lead Technician will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of our bus yard technician team, ensuring the timely and efficient diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of vehicles and equipment. As a Lead Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring safety, efficiency, and longevity for our vehicles.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and prioritize the workload of the bus yard team, assigning tasks and ensuring that all work is completed in a timely manner.
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues in vehicles.
  • Manage inventory levels of parts and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels to support maintenance and repair activities while minimizing waste and excess inventory.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, and other components, adhering to manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
  • Coach and monitor members of the work team.
  • Maintain open communication and good relations with customer.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience, with demonstrated proficiency in diagnosing and repairing engines and related systems.
  • ASE Certified preferred
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Subject to a DOT physical exam and DOT drug testing. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.

  • The essential functions of this position require the ability to:
  • Push and pull objects, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level
  • Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes, and noise.
