Job summary

Ruppert Landscape is seeking a Lead Technician & Engine Mechanic to join our in-house fleet team in the Lorton, VA area. You will diagnose, repair, and maintain a range of fleet vehicles and equipment—including diesel/gas trucks and landscape tools—while upholding safety standards and supporting operations across our projects.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of hands-on mechanical experience, strong aptitude with power equipment, and a safety-first mindset.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair fleet vehicles and equipment (power equipment, mowers, trucks, trailers).
• Recondition vehicles twice a year to meet safety and image standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment.
• Document and maintain service/repair records accurately.
• Provide exceptional internal customer service and effective communication.
• Assist with other operational tasks as assigned.

Where You Fit In

As a Lead Technician & Engine Mechanic on our in‑house fleet team, you will play a critical role in maintaining and servicing a wide range of vehicles and equipment, including diesel/gas trucks, commercial mowers, and two‑cycle equipment. This role is essential in upholding our company’s image and keeping our operations teams working safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform repairs and preventative maintenance on a variety of fleet vehicles and equipment, including power equipment, mowers, trucks, trailers, and other landscape tools
• Recondition vehicles and equipment twice a year to ensure they meet company image standards and are safe, reliable, and ready for use
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment
• Accurately document and maintain service and repair records
• Provide exceptional internal customer service, prioritizing efficiency, quality, and communication
• Assist with other operational tasks as assigned

Qualifications

• A safety‑first mindset with a commitment to adhering to safety regulations and promoting safe work practices
• Minimum of 3‑5 years of hands‑on mechanical experience
• Strong mechanical aptitude, especially with gas/diesel vehicles and landscaping equipment
• Ability to supply personal tools as needed to perform the role

• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Keen attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality
• Experience with diesel engines and bilingual ability (English/Spanish) are preferred but not required

Reports To: Shop Manager

Pay: $25–37/hour (based on experience)
