Job summary

Playbill, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Technical Director in Sandy, Utah to oversee technical aspects of productions.

You will provide leadership, design development, and strategic direction from concept through installation and delivery, ensuring safety, reliability, and efficiency throughout the project lifecycle. The role requires deep knowledge of theatrical construction, rigging, electrical theory, and CAD tools, plus hands-on problem-solving during rehearsals and performances.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theater or equivalent experience with focus on technical design, construction, and production.
• Minimum five (5) years of experience in professional or touring theatre.

Responsibilities

• Lead the execution of all technical elements for assigned productions, ensuring the creative vision is realized with precision and efficiency.
• Provide strategic oversight and project management from concept to completion, including concept refinement, feasibility assessment, design development, production, technical delivery, and final documentation.
• Collaborate with creative teams to develop and implement technical solutions that enhance storytelling while addressing regulatory, safety, maintenance, and operational considerations.
• Ensure the successful execution and delivery of scenic builds, adhering to approved designs and the creative vision established by the Designer, Directing teams and Producers.
• Provide hands-on technical expertise and problem-solving support during rehearsals and performances.
• Ensure a smooth handover of final production elements to operational and maintenance teams.
• Stay at the forefront of industry trends and best practices to drive innovation in technical production.
• Advise Producers, Directors, and Designers on feasibility, functionality, and technical specifications of equipment and systems.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
