The Lead Mental Health Technician (Lead MHT) is a hands‑on leader who helps keep patient care safe, consistent, and organized across the hospital. In addition to performing the duties of an MHT, the Lead MHT serves as a point of contact for technicians, helps communicate needs and concerns to nursing leadership, and follows up to make sure expectations are understood and carried out.
This role provides day‑to‑day guidance to MHTs on patient observation, therapeutic interactions, documentation, and unit routines. The Lead MHT helps identify gaps in coverage or practice, responds to concerns on the units, and brings patient safety issues to the appropriate nurse or leader promptly. Working with the Nurse Educator, the Lead MHT also helps train new technicians, provides mentorship and feedback, and models the professionalism and compassionate care expected at Hickory Trail.
