Job summary

Canyon Creek Behavioral Health in Temple, Texas is seeking a Mental Health Technician to join our treatment team. You will provide continuous patient care, supervise and model appropriate behavior under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities include following treatment plans, observing changes in patients, and communicating updates to the charge nurse, while supporting adolescents through geriatrics in an acute care setting.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred: Certified Nursing Assistant.
• Experience: Minimum one year in psychiatric patient care preferred.
• Licensure: None.
• Additional requirements: Handle with Care Training and CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

• Follow the therapeutic interventions outlined by the treatment team for each patient.
• Utilize sound judgment during assessment and observe and documents any changes in a patient's appearance, behavior, or ability to work toward treatment plan goals.
• Communicate changes in patient's condition to the charge nurse.

Position Summary

The Mental Health Technician functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling to patients ranging in ages from adolescents through geriatrics. All MHT's work under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Preferred: Certified Nursing Assistant; Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, recreational therapy, or appropriate therapeutic discipline highly desirable.

Experience: Minimum one (1) year(s) of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.

Licensure: None

Additional Requirements: Successful completion Handle with Care Training, Service Excellence Training, and CPR certification required. Certifications must be obtained during new hire orientation. MHT's may be required to work weekends, overtime, nights, and have flexible hours.
