Job summary

Shenandoah University’s Child Care Center in Winchester, Virginia is seeking a Lead Teacher for the 2-year-old classroom. This full-time benefited position offers a warm, supportive environment and university-wide benefits including tuition reimbursement for self and family.

The Lead Teacher will plan and implement developmentally appropriate curricula, supervise staff, communicate with families, and ensure a safe, engaging classroom aligned with ELDS and licensing standards.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in a child-related field with six months of programmatic experience.
• Endorsement or bachelor’s degree in a child field with one year of experience.
• Associate’s Degree in early childhood education with 18 ECE credits and one year of experience.
• Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) with one year of experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and weekly lesson plans aligned with ELDS.
• Plan experiences supporting social-emotional, cognitive, language, physical and creative development.
• Use hands-on learning, meaningful play, and open-ended questions to foster exploration.
• Maintain frequent and professional communication with families regarding progress and activities.
• Supervise and direct assistant teachers to ensure routines, hygiene and safety.
• Maintain active supervision, required ratios, and a safe classroom environment.
• Provide developmentally appropriate guidance to support independence and social skills.
• Assist with diapering, toilet learning, handwashing, meals and daily care routines.
• Maintain accurate classroom records, lesson plans, attendance, and documentation.
• Follow Shenandoah University Child Care Center and Virginia licensing policies.
• Participate in professional development, staff meetings and Center activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
